It's grim up Norf !! Trust me.
The Stadium of Light sits on the banks of the River Wear. Which rises in the Pennines and flows into the North Sea.

Santa says "Please to Micchu Mr Butler". [In house joke reference to Swansea striker and Arsenal's defence a few weeks back]
The industrial waste lands of the North East

Are these buildings allotments or penthouse suites - you decide.

The Stadium of Light (SoL) - a fine ground indeed.

The official welcome to the SoL

A rare picture of yours truly.

No , it is not Oaks running the marathon - but Bobby Stokoe the late Sunderland manager who led his side to a one nil victory over Don Revie's dirty Leeds in the 1973 FA Cup.

The North East is great for an Urban Decay enthusiast like me.

Oaksey's Tatto Parlour.

The Fort - stronghold of the Black Cat Ultras.

Who lives in a house like this? Parnell's in laws possibly?

Not a tropical fish shop - but Cheryl Cole's tanning studio in fact.

The Avenue Night Club - the place to be this New Year's Eve. The Porterfield Suite is particularly nice. Apparently Bobby Ball, Jimmy Nail and Ant & Dec all cut their "teeth" at this venue - before moving onto the the Palladium with Jimmy Tarbuck RIP.

High rise living still very popular up here.

If Jordan's Henderson's career does not take off at Liverpool - he can always return to his Butcher's shop - looks like  a queue is gathering as I type.

More sun beds and a nice portrait gallery to boot.

Our friend John Lydon also likes the North East.

The SoL was built on the grounds of the old Wearmouth Colliery - hence the Colliery wheel to symbolise this fact - Rafa.
The mine was the largest mine in Sunderland and one of the most important in County Durham. Opened in 1835 and the last shift was the 10th December 1993. The site was cleared and the SoL was opened in July 1997. According to a local source, the centre circle was where the old pit shaft use to be.

The Butler arrives - minus Santa Claus.

Adebayor goes for goal

One of those really effective corners - Spurs are famous for.

Congratulations you've just met the world famous Parnell twins!
