If ever a town suffered from the demise of the mining industry it was Hemwsorth. Despite  interventions by governments of the day, unemployment has remained in excess of 50% of the local population. The Hemsworth constituency is famous for being the place where Labour votes were said to be "weighed than counted" during the 70's. Hemsworth Miners Welfare were formed in 1981 after the disbandment of Hemsworth Collieries FC, the club joined div 3 of the Doncaster and District Senior League and back to back promotions lead to a place in the Premier section of this division in the '87-'88 season. The club kept moving up the non league ladder and were finally accepted into Division One of the Northern Counties East League.
According to a local source, this chippy was not bombed by the Fokkers during the war. It served the local community well with fresh haddock coated in batter during the war years, plus a fine line in battered confectionery ....hang on that cannot be right - Mars Bars only entered the UK market in 1968 - Flysouth useful fact No 1 in a series of millions.
Local surroundings....
Hemsworth boast a fine club house and a fine crowd to match. By the way, they do like a conifer or two here, more to follow on this shortly - you've been warned!!
Here's Horace the ground hopping dog, whilst getting the "games in" he loves to eat a bite of snow as well.
Poey may well be innocent, but he is certainly guilty of not paying his gate money in this instance.
More on those conifers, give it a couple of years and the place will be over run with 'em. Believe you me, I speak from experience. Dr Flysouth's tree surgeon services are available at a very competitive rate.
The Knaresborough Town No 9, in red ripped into the "Welfare" with two early goals - resulting in the "Welfare" requiring some "Welfare" themselves.
Knaresborough continue to attack with avengance.

In the second half - after some "Welfare", the Welfare attempted to mount a come back - but the damage was clearly done in the first half.
Look!!! More conifers and it is not even full time.
More attacks on the Welfare.
This week's spot the ball competition, and the prize is...........
A complimentary visit to Hemsworth's very own tanning studio.Whereby, you can be guaranteed to come out looking like a member of the Dutch national team, if the exterior colour scheme is anything to go by.
A case of so near, but so far for the Welfare - the No 9 looks like he needs some "Welfare" himself.
It's no good, you cannot run away from the "Invasion of the Conifers"!
